Attachment and the arts 2021 - The disembodied image: exploring the impact of the pandemic on personal and professional attachments

Since March 2020, we have become used to interacting personally and professionally in a curiously disembodied way as ‘heads and shoulders’ on screens. Our usual non-verbal, mostly body-based, communication cues have been altered. Importantly, touch-based gestures of comfort and compassion have been forbidden in-person and are impossible on screen. Foundations that underpin our personal and professional identities have been shaken, and so has our sense of belonging and attachment.
