Facilitating Art Therapy in Situations of Conflict and Social Upheaval

This course is open to all who wish to attend. Since 2015, the world has witnessed an unprecedented movement of people into Europe fleeing contexts of war, persecution, social upheaval and poverty from the Middle East, Asia and Africa. There is growing interest in the need for appropriate interventions to support people on a psychological level and the skills of Art Therapists are beginning to be recognised as relevant and needed within this context.

This one day course will look at issues involved in offering art therapy interventions outside the UK. It will cover case examples, contemporary debate and discussion, definition of terms, as well as practical discussion on working as an art therapist in this specialist area. The course will particularly benefit registered art therapists with experience of working as artists or art therapists in contexts of trauma / community / refugee settings who wish to develop their work in the area of international humanitarian support.
