(FULLY BOOKED) Art Therapy Based Psychoeducation

This course is for qualified Art Therapists and Art Therapy Trainees only. Evidence is mounting that patient education can both increase the effectiveness of psychological therapy interventions by strengthening the therapeutic alliance and be a valid brief intervention in its own right. Psychoeducational approaches which are overly academic or cognitively based can be less effective in situations where learning and attention can be compromised by emotional distress or developmental issues.

Saturday 12th of May 2018

10am to 5pm

24 – 27 White Lion Street, London N1 9PD

The practice of combining art therapy as part of a learning approach is showing potential in these situations and whilst new, the field is growing. This course will define the practice of art therapy based psychoeducation and examine the core competencies needed to design and deliver it effectively in a range of situations and with a range of clinical populations. Attendees of the course will:

• Be able to define art therapy based psychoeducation

• Design suitable approaches for the clinical situations they work in

• Develop the core competencies to deliver psychoeducation

Dr. Neil Springham was a course leader at Goldsmiths College, co-founded the Art Therapy Practice Research Network and was twice elected chair of BAAT. He has a PhD in Psychology and is a consultant art therapist in the NHS working with people diagnosed with personality disorder.
