White Paper on professional regulation

"Trust, Assurance and Safety – the Regulation of Health Professionals in the 21st Century"

The Government has published this white paper which has important implications and states:

New roles and emerging professions

The Government is planning to introduce statutory regulation for applied psychologists, healthcare scientists, psychotherapists, counsellors and other psychological therapists. (7.2)

They will be regulated by the HPC. No new regulators will be established. (7.16)

As the first psychological therapy professions (with Music Therapy and Dramatherapy) to gain State Registration ten years ago (on 27th March 1997!), the BAAT welcomes this and looks forward to working with our colleagues from Psychotherapy, Psychology and Counselling. Our Art Therapists Registrant Members at HPC will be actively involved in this process.
