February 2011: Latest news from online R&D sources

Dementia Research  - NIHR Call

http://www.nihr.ac.uk/research/Pages/Dementia.aspx

The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) will issue a call for research on dementia in March 2011. The call supports the NIHR response to 'Living well with Dementia – A National Dementia Strategy', published in February 2009. It also supports the work of the Ministerial Advisory Group on Dementia Research (MAGDR) on ways to improve the volume and impact of dementia research. Reports from the MAGDR subgroups should be available in late March and applicants will need to consider their recommendations, carefully, particularly in respect of topic priorities and better ways of working.  This early advance notice of the intention to call will allow adequate time for the dementia research community to prepare high quality applications.

The call will extend across the translational pathway, covering the fields of cause, cure and care, including prevention. Seven of the NIHR managed research programmes will be participating:

  • Efficacy and Mechanism Evaluation
  • Public Health Research
  • Health Services Research
  • Health Technology Assessment
  • Programme Grants for Applied Research
  • Research for Patient Benefit
  • Service Delivery and Organisation

The themed call will be launched in March 2011 with applications closing on 20 May 2011. Research proposals will be assessed by independent peer review and funding decisions will be made by the end of March 2012.

  • a substantial research-related paper directed at a peer-reviewed journal.

The scheme is aimed at clinicians and researchers within nursing, medical and allied health professions and other areas relating to health and social care research. The Scholarship will be held at one of the five CECo universities: Lancaster University, University of Liverpool, University of Manchester, University of Nottingham and the University of Southampton.
