These Guidelines were originally published in 1997 in consultation with the Association for Dance Movement Therapy (UK), the Association of Professional Music Therapists, the British Association of Art Therapists, and the British Association for Dramatherapists.
The Guidelines aim to be an important reference resource for colleagues who are employed as part of specialist prison teams. They also aim to be a source of reference for arts therapists, trainers, and supervisors who are unfamiliar with work in custodial settings. Issues raised are also relevant for arts therapists working with offenders in community settings and National Health Service Secure Units, and for students undertaking postgraduate training and research commitments. The Guidelines cover: Information about the Arts Therapies, Planning and Preparation of Services, Working Methods, Ethical and Other Professional Considerations, and General Information.
