Are you looking for a new career that involves creativity and personal growth? Whether you are starting to shape your professional path or want to change an established work career, this workshop will help you to find out if the profession of Art Therapy may suit your needs.
We will introduce the professional context of Art Therapy and its development. We will explain the basic concepts of Art Therapy and present case studies from our clinical work in psychiatry and with children. We will also give an overview of the various pathways available to train in Art Therapy and there will be a 'surgery' time at the end of the day to meet individually with one of the convenors to discuss your personal needs.
The workshop will include lectures, small group discussions and case presentations.
TOBIAS ARNUP qualified as an art psychotherapist in 1990. Since then he has specialised in working in 'secure' settings with mentally disordered offenders, mostly working individually over long periods. He is interested in the impact that treating these complex service users has both on individual therapists and on multi disciplinary teams. In 2006, he completed an MA in 'Consultation and the Organisation (psychoanalytic approaches)'.
JANET DE HEGER (B Ed, SRAsT, Dip Adv Psych Couns., UKRC Reg) also taught at Goldsmiths College from 1992 until 2002 on the Art Therapy Introductory and Foundation Courses and on the Post-Graduate Art Therapy Training. She is a qualified Psychodynamic Counsellor. For many years she practised within Mental Health Services and now works as an Art Therapist/Counsellor within a school and as a Private Practitioner
