BAAT & art therapy events
Events
- Saturday Supervision Group
This group is for arts psychotherapists who work with complex and 'difficult to engage' clients, including those in forensic settings. There is an emphasis on exploring the personal impact of this work both on ourselves and the wider MDT. Attention is also paid to the roles that we take up within the organisations we are employed in and how this affects our relationships with both service users and colleagues. The group is particularly useful for therapists who work alone, in small departments or who have limited clinical experience. The group meets for 3 hours, 6 Saturdays a year.

- THE BIG DRAW
The Big Draw returns this October under the banner, Make your Mark on the Future, for what should be its biggest and most successful season yet. Last year more than 1600 events across the UK - and in seven other countries - encouraged people of all ages to engage creatively with their community, environment and heritage. The annual Big Draw provides an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of creativity in healing.
If you're interested in organising your own Big Draw event head to www.campaignfordrawing.org and after registering (free) you will receive a free DVD jam-packed with excellent case studies offering inspiring examples and useful strategies. It's worth noting that 20 Awards worth up to £1000 each are presented to organisers of outstanding events.
Several of the 2009 Award winning Big Draw events advocated creativity within healthcare, including: students of Stockport College raising public awareness of mental health day with a hundred-metre Big Doodle and clockwork drawing machines making wonderful geometric patterns; Fresh Arts encouraged positive involvement in North Bristol hospitals with patients, visitors and health care professionals collaboratively producing a plethora of wonderful art work; Prema Arts Centre devised a project for patients with longer-term medical conditions and enduring mental health problems which prohibited their taking part in mainstream community life- the aim was to provide a safe environment for everyone to develop new skills, to think big, and to have fun. The Big Draw offers a great opportunity to promote the excellent work of Art Therapy in a fun and engaging way.
