Biographical notes

I have worked as an art therapist since qualifying in 1992. My clinical experience has been in adult mental health in the NHS in psychiatric, community and neurological settings.   I have worked with a variety of other client groups including people with learning disabilities, elderly people and recently children in schools.  I also supervise other art therapists.

I have taught on Art Therapy training courses since 1995. This has been at MA level for the last three years. I have covered a range of roles- including clinical placement organising as well as academic and organisational.

I am a member of the arts in health SIG as well as the Art Therapists in Neurology. I was a BAAT Regional co-ordinator for 4 years.

In 2006 I represented Art Therapists at the Department of Health Conference on Stroke Strategy to be fed into the NSF for older people.

My previous work was in both the voluntary and statutory sector and I have a broad knowledge of different health and social care/voluntary settings and their interactions.

 I am interested in:

    • How we as a Profession can feed into policy development in the NHS and in other settings.
    • Areas of overlap between mental and physical health.
    • The art in art therapy in our thinking as well as our practice
    • Developing ways we can establish and maintain an Art Therapy presence within different and changing settings.
