Since qualifying as an Art Therapists in 1992 I have worked full-time on a self-employed basis within South East Kent. Due to the lack of employment opportunities during the early 1990's I had to promote Art Therapy in my area through a series of workshops, aimed at teachers, foster carers, managers and support workers of Child Care organisations. This proved to be an effective way of creating sessional work and establishing links within the community, so much so that I have continued to encourage newly qualified Art Therapists to promote their skills in this way.
With regard to future professional development I am studying part-time for MA Art Psychotherapy at Goldsmiths College, which has a positive effect on all aspect of my work and has increased my knowledge of the history and development of Art Therapy.
I have joined the CPD Working group and the Membership Group and my experience of being on Council has furthered my appreciation of the function of BAAT and the amount of work involved in promoting the Council's objectives.
