Val Huet (MA, SRAsT, Dip.Grp.Psych., UKCP Reg) is the Executive Officer of the BAAT. She qualified as an Art Therapist in 1986 and has practised since then in psychiatry and later within a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service. She is also a qualified Group Psychotherapist. From October 1992 until July 2003, Val taught at Goldsmiths' College on the Art Therapy Introductory and Foundation Courses and on the Post-Graduate/MA Art Therapy Training.
Val has a first degree in sculpture and qualified as an Art Therapist in 1986 and worked for four years in Social Services in Adult Mental Health. She was the Head of the Arts Therapies Department at Springfield Hospital between 1990 and 1996 (full time then part-time). There she worked within acute services and community-based resources on a supra-regional Deaf Unit with deaf clients. She completed a training as a Group Psychotherapist in 1991 and a Master Degree in Art Psychotherapy in 1996. She has taught on the PostGraduate Diploma since 1992 and teaches on the Art Therapy Foundation Course and Introductory Courses. Her Clinical Practice includes sessional art therapy in a Child and Family clinic and a long term Art Psychotherapy Group. She also works as a private supervisor. Val is involved in the setting up of the Art Therapy Practice Research Network. Val now co-ordinates short courses in art therapy at the unit. (Ed Skaife, S. and Huet V.) 1998, Val has written papers on Art Therapy with deaf Clients, long-term Psychiatric Clients, Women and Group Work.
