After gaining a degree in History of Art and Design, I began my Art Therapy training at the University of Sheffield. I qualified in the year 2000, and since then I have established an NSPCC Post Abuse Art Therapy Service, a school based service, and the CAMHS Art Therapy Service in Bangor which I lead. I also work part time as the Senior Art Psychotherapist at Ty Llywelyn Adult Medium Secure Forensic Unit, and teach on the Arts in Health Course at Harlech College.
Previously I have been a Student Representative, and co-opted member of Council, prior to being voted into my current role as Welsh Representative. My work on Council has been varied and has included helping to design a survey regarding pay and conditions for the non-statutory sector (charities, private, and independent practice), the results of which are now ready to be collated so that the issues may be taken forward.
Committed to raising the profile of the Arts Therapies in Wales, I have been working at commissioning level to propose arts based training for CAMHS workers in North Wales, and to develop an arts based emotional health programme to be used in secondary schools across the region. Current activities are focussed on liaison regarding the arrangements and feasibility for a North Wales CAMHS conference.
As a member of the All Wales Network for Arts Therapies Professions I attend meetings, and liaise regularly with Welsh Regional Representatives, providing a link to BAAT Council. I am keen to continue representing Art Therapists in Wales and to support Council in taking our profession forward in the coming year.
