Working with Children and Young People in Arts Therapy 2017-18
08 March 2017
The British Association of Art Therapists is delighted to announce that applications are now being accepted for the second cohort of the Level 5 Diploma in Working with Children in Art Therapy, written and designed by BAAT and accredited by the Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB).
Never before has there been such a wealth of compelling evidence, making us more determined than ever to ensure that we are getting it right for our children!
The rising incidence of mental health issues amongst children and young people has become an acute source of concern. Growing evidence highlights a need for accessible and effective interventions that can engage this client group. Additionally, clinicians have to work within an increasingly complex legal framework and ensure that their practice complies with statutory requirements. Children and young people sometimes struggle to put their feelings into words and professionals often report that art and other creative therapies can have significant impact on impulse control, wellbeing and emotional literacy.
In response to the sharp increase in children’s mental health issues within a rapidly changing legislative framework BAAT launched its first accredited course, Working with Children in Arts Therapy.
The curriculum is specifically designed to enhance existing skills and to support arts therapists already engaged in, or wishing to join the children and young people’s workforce. With the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) policy coming into effect in May 2018 our course also aims to ensure that arts therapists are supported to safeguard client data, understand implications for consent and subject access requests, particularly in relation to children and young people.
The course will equip arts therapists with the skills required to ensure ethical and effective intervention with children and young people. This course is open to HCPC registered arts therapists and international applicants who work abroad.
We are now delighted to announce that in response to member’s feedback we will be able to offer a part time study option.
Deadline for applications for the next cohort: 30th of June 2017
Start Date: 30 September 2017
